Cannabis entrepreneurs join Asia fund raiser in the Netherlands
Wilco, my colleague from Coffeeshop Birdy in Haarlem, came up with the idea, Wernard helped him work it out, and I joined them, of course.
Wilcos idea was to raise money amongst cannabizness people, for the big national fund raiser on Thursday, January 6, 2005.
Wilco with the initial cheque we made, just before we left for the Media Park in Hilversum.
By the time we got to the Notary to register our donation, the figure had increased to 20.000 euros, Anytime from Alkmaar donated 2000, Wilco and me filled the small gap to the nice, round figure.
The Notary gave us an official donation cheque, to write down the number and the name of the donator(s). We registered as the Dutch Cannabis Entrepreneurs.
There was a smoking ban in the studio complex, like on the VIP balcony we were stationed by the organization, but we could see people smoking cigarettes downstairs.
We went down as well, and Wilco started skinning one up right away.
Just after Wilco lit the joint, a police officer in full brass came walking down the stairs. His nose and eyes showed me he noticed, but he went passed without comment.
It was no more than appropriate to smoke a joint in front of our cheque
All of a sudden, some Ninjas came in, and started to kick around them in the air, it turned out they were part of the presentation of a Kung Fu school, with dragons and all.
We ended up in the end of a huge line up, all people that were invited to donate a cheque.
It was obvious we would not make it to the stage in time
.
We made it in to the studio, but by then transmission had already stopped, Wilco wanted to stick around, to see if we could get some press coverage anyway.
We were standing next to the call-center, which was set up in the stands, all places manned by Dutch celebrities, politicians and journalists.
Then, out of the blue, our Prime Minister, Balkenende, popped up next to us, so I pulled out my camera. First, I was behind our sign, which Wilco held up behind the PM. I walked around to get a shot, when one of Balkenendes aids saw the text on the cheque, as you can see on his face. He pushed Balkenende away from us right after I took this picture. Balkenende is anti cannabis, anti coffeeshop and anti real life. He looked like a first class nerd, being pushed around by his security staff.
Sorry for the bad picture, but I am very pleased with this shot!
We were interviewed after all, in front of a camera, but we do not know if these images were broadcasted, well keep you informed. We were very well received by our fellow donators, they were pleased to see we were as aware of the Disaster in Asia as they are.
It was a great experience, especially because the action totaled 112 million euros!!!
Keep on caring for the poor people that were not or half swallowed by the Tsunami, every donation can solve a small human problem.
