Decriminalizing of trafficking with all kinds of drugs, in small quantities for personal use, has been implemented with broad political support. The governing Socialist Party (PASOK) also has legalizing of cannabis in their party programme. One of the left wing parties, the small Green Party and one of the Liberal parties also support legalizing of cannabis.The Greek socialists voted drug liberal at the EU Parliament votings i May 1992 and February 1994. In Greece there is a Legalize Cannabis campaign, which primarily attracts musicians, artists, journalists and writers.
Kallithea, one of the cities within Greater Athens, has signed the Frankfurt Declaration, and in addition established a national contact web with other cities, that want to work in accordance with the declaration. More than a year ago Greece introduced a Legal Prescription Programme based on maintenance doses, with a liberal distribution of drugs and syringes.

the party that supported decriminization [not clearly but anyway] lost the elections on april. the conservative party is now the goverment. anyway
cops here will search you even if they now the only thing you might carry is so little thats only enough for a joint or two. and you will be prosecuted for that quantity most likely. if you are lucky you will just spend the night at the 2x2 prison at your local police station. its apitty because if they find a heroin addict with his dose, they will live him allone. if they find a cannabis "addict", they will do all these, and probably smoke his weed as well.
maybe now with the olympics the pollice have been ordered to be soft with smoking tourists, because if one was caught for smoking cannabis and the news traveled through the world, we [greece] would be intenationally humiliated.
good greek weed has also been disapeared, because choppers are up in the sky all day. we used to have so good greek smoke [which is landrace sativa varieties i think] and now all we have is cheap imported skunkie weed..
i hope things get better after the olympics.. peace!

Hi all ,, well i would like to bring thing's back to reality alittle bit

I am a cannadian/greek , that lives in greece & got busted

i got busted with about 20 plants ( seedling's )

after 4 years of being charged , i was judged & convicted , to 8 months jail & probation .. i was not allowed to speak guring the trial .. and i mean not at all !!! i was a no-body , a bum , a discrace to the human race ..

but in greece there is a very strange system , anything that is a misdemeanor is bought off , you pay 4.70 euros a day ,,

if you dont have the money on you , at the time of sentencing you go to jail .. felonies can also be bought off but are for the trafficker's who have lots of cash

but for a first offence even though you are found guilty , of course , in greece you are guilty until you prove you are innocent .. sentenced & given probation

you dont go to jail, you pay only 70 euros for the court's expences ..but if you get busted again , in the time span of the probation , which is usualy 2 years , you get convicted for the first time ,again !!! & of course found guilty the second time which is usualy double of the first time ..

yes unfortunately Pasok did not win the election's , The New Democrats will never legalize cannabis or even think about making the law any lighter for the poor & sick , medical cannabis user's ,, like myself

i said to the judge ( women ) i forced myself , she looked at me very angry , she cut me off in the middle of my defence .. and never let me speak again

i said cannabis has been accepted as a medicine , just like it was before 1937 ..there is a product (medicine ) made from cannabis called Sativex & is out in the market as we speak ,, but is not in Greece why ???

what do you expect me to do , i have no other option but to grow my own , because no-one has the right to force me into looking for it on the street

i have been growing for 20 years , i think i have bought weed like 2 times when i was 14 ,15 years old ..

why is it that somebody can go to a bar & drink as many bottles of alcohol he wants & get into his car put the keys into the ignition , with out anyone stopping him , or giving a shit ( he is cool the man of the night )

start's the car & crashes on a mother & her children killing them , but most of the time he doesn't get cauhgt of course because he takes off & the police are to late to arrive at the scene

and i dont have the right to grow cannabis plants & use them in my home for medical reason's

and the judge reply's ,, yea well that's in canada , this is greece & i dont care ( you are a scum of society ) & so i wont see your face again ..you are found guilty & bla bla bla

in greece , there is no democracy , there is no constitution , no human right's , nothing .... you got cash " you are the man of the night ... go go in the name of everything that is not logical , stupid , evil & do what ever you please !!!

oh yeah i for got to mention i got busted again , in greece people are very nosy & jealous ..there is always some-one around to rat you out ..there is alway's some-one around to try to do you harm & your whole family

i guess this is every where , but because greece is a small country it really show's , you just gotta open your eyes very much also ..

Greece has not changed at all from the period of the Hounda , Papadopoulos ( dictator )

it's just that polititian's ( new democratic party ) , judges , hard core drug dealer's , strip club owner's run the show ..

i am very sad to hear that in a country where people are so sociable (in my experience, as a tourist) that the old "colonel/bishop* regime still exists.
